WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED
THE 5 Steps to Salvation
1. Acknowledge God.
Hebrews 11v6 'For without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him'
2. Acknowledge sin
Psalm 51v3-4 'I acknowledge my disobedience and my sin is ever before me, against you, you only have I sinned'
3. Act on command.
Acts 17v30 God 'now commands all men every where to repent'
4. Abandon all human effort
Titus 3 v 5 'Not by our doing things the right way, but according to His mercy, He has saved us'
5. Accept the Lord Jesus
Acts 16 v 31 'believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved'
Many things change but one thing never changes and that's the grace of God! His longsuffering and patience!
These readings explain the way of salvation. In Gods grace the conditions haven't changed BUT one thing is certain, we're nearer to the coming of the Lord! That will mean glory for me and judgement for you!
1. The first step is to acknowledge God.
#########################
Salvation is impossible without this. God says in the book of Isaiah 'I am God and beside me there is none other'. He claims sole and unique position. There is none other! This is not up for discussion it is to be accepted! Not by dumb unthinking but by using our intelligence we can see that God is!
Originally man knew God! Rom 1 v 21 'because when they KNEW God they they did not glorify Him as God, professing themselves to be wise, they became fools'.
So friend you must believe that He is and that He is who he says He is if not then eternal judgement is your lot.
2. The second step is to acknowledge sin.
##########################
Remember the 10 commandments? Do you know them?
Ex 20.
1 you shall not have any Gods beside me
2 you shall not make unto thee any graven image
3 you shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
4 keep the Sabbath
5 honour thy father and thy mother
6 you shall not kill
7 you shall not commit adultery
8 you shall not steal
9 you shall not lie about other people
10 you shall not crave what is not yours
The Bible makes it clear that in order to be accepted in God's sight you must keep and keep on keeping these commandments!
If you break one of them you've broken the lot! 'for whoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point he is guilty of all' James 2 v 10. So how do you measure up to God's standards?
1 Love of selfish pleasures more than God breaks the first! How often do you put yourself first?
2 Religious adoration for objects breaks the second! Crucifix etc or any material possession you may have.
3 Flippant and blasphemous use of God's name breaks the third! Never misused the name of Christ or God in vain?
4 Failure to worship in Spirit and truth breaks the fourth. Always have thought of worshipping Him!
5 Disrespect and ingratitude to your parents breaks the fifth! Try and remember your youth!
6 Anger and hatred breaks the sixth! Never said 'I hate him/her'?
7 Lustful desire for another woman breaks the seventh not to mention having a relationship with her. Never lusted?
8 Cheating and stealing breaks the eighth. Never stolen not even that chocy bickie?
9 Lying and gossiping break the ninth. Never lied not even a 'small ' one?
10 Coveting or being jealous breaks the tenth. Never been jealous of what someone else has?
Now you see why Paul says in Romans 3:20 'for by the law is the knowledge of sin'.
Friend be honest with yourself, there is one you have broken and therefore you are guilty of breaking them all!
You see now how God has been able to righteously say that 'ALL HAVE SINNED and come short of the glory of God'? My friend the second step is to ACKNOWLEDGE you are a sinner. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up!
3. Act on command.
############
God now commands all men everywhere to repent. That is a change of mind. A change of attitude towards God, accepting your sinfulness in His sight, and saying with David and the prodigal son 'I have sinned against heaven'.
What keeps you from repenting?
Your Past?
Your Pride?
Your Possessions?
Other People?
Your Partner?
There is nothing that should stop you from repenting, listen God says to you 'repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out'. Ignore it at your peril!
4. Abandon all human effort.
##################
This is the hardest thing for most folk. To understand that they can do nothing to save themselves. The gospel casts men totally upon God for salvation. 'For by grace are you saved through faith and that NOT OF YOURSELVES it is the gift of God, not of works in case any man should boast'
Not baptism, not church attendance, not chapel attendance, not your up bringing, not prayers nothing BUT CHRIST! Only faith in the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ will save your soul.
'not the labour of my hands can fulfil Your laws demands, could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone, You must save and You alone!'
Why did the hymn writer pen such words? Because he knew that all has been done! At the cross, in three hours of darkness Christ was made sin! Crucified for sinners! Abandoned by God for the sin of sinners like you and me who couldn't keep the law!
Made a curse for me, His visage so marred more than the sons of men! There on the cross He shed His blood and paid the price for sinners! Peace with God, forgiveness of sin, and the broken law, eternal life, and a home in heaven is yours if you would but believe!
TRUE STORY
########
Young lad with his friends went swimming. As they do, one was lookout for crocs while the others swam.
Suddenly he saw one, "CROC" he cried, one lad was too far out to reach shore so made for a branch overhanging the water, grabbed it and tried to pull himself up, but the croc got his thigh, and there they stayed ... eventually the croc tried to get a better grip to pull the lad down, opened his mouth and the lad saw his chance pulled himself up higher on that wood in that split second as the croc released its grip and then bit again.
This time the croc only got his ankle, the lad clung to the tree and eventually the croc gave up.
His friends carried him to the hospital at Luma Casai where a doctor and nurses operated on him. His skin had literally been peeled back from thigh to ankle and the lad was unconscious for several days.
When he came too, he kept saying 'the tree saved me the tree saved me, it wasn't my friends but the tree saved me!'
The tree saves us all, if we regard the cross of wood on which Christ was crucified as the tree.
Oh to realise that it was on the cross that Christ died to save you!
5. Accept the Lord Jesus
################
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved!
Believe by faith that He died for you. There is no other way. You can't see Him, you weren't there at Calvary, and you can't do anything to save yourself, its FAITH my friend that's required!
