NOW UNTO HIM
##############
From the last sermon of Rev Malcolm Brown before leaving Saffron Walden
It was based on Ephesians 3. 14-21.entitled “NOW UNTO HIM”
Preaching from the first verse that reads “For this reason (because of all that Christ has done) I kneel”
Malcolm said that he did not like kneeling which he found uncomfortable, he preferred the Baptist way of sitting to pray. The Jews generally stood for prayer but in exceptional circumstances they knelt. As the Bible tells us Ezra did , and Jesus in Gethsemane , and Stephen the first martyr as he was stoned by the Jews praying “Father forgive them”.
Kneeling was regarded as showing an exceptional degree of earnestness, determined passionate costly prayer that refuses to give up until it has achieved effect. d
Malcolm reminded us that God’s resources are inexhaustible. God’s glorious riches are lavished upon us.
What is your earnest prayer today? God can answer it
He can answer all our prayers.
The substance of this prayer is
1.They will be strengthened with spiritual power( from the Holy Spirit)
We are not living or looking victoriously we are to be strengthened and empowered.
2.We are to be rooted and grounded in love. Every believer is part of God’s family. Can we say “I love you with the love of the Lord” “All one in Christ” as is written in Galatians. “His love makes it possible for us to love one another both here at Walden and at Eland Upper Edge Baptist Church, Yorkshire”.
3.Know Christ’s love in all it’s dimensions which is able to encompass the whole world, - Jew, Gentile, Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist. Animist, Shintoist, Christian. It lasts into eternity deeply to reach everyone, high enough to exalt Him. ( Romans 8 v 28,29) Reaching all the saints. There is far more for us yet to experience, enough for us all.
4 Filled up to God’s fullness, His generosity, abundance
We are to go on being filled beyond satisfaction
Become as Christ made it possible to become 2 Corinthians 3 verse 18 “Transformed into His likeness” .....” by the renal of your minds”. This is a process that goes on and on throughout our earthly life until he makes us perfect beyond death. Ephesians 3 v 20-21
