Above all powers
Above all kings
Above all nature
And all created things
Above all wisdom
And all the ways of man
LORD You were here
Before the world began
Above all kingdoms
Above all thrones
Above all wonders
The world has ever known
Above all wealth
And treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure
What You're worth
Crucified, Laid behind a stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose
Trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all. Thank you.
IN BRITAIN WE HAVE JUST SAID GOOD BYE [ meaning God bless You ] to CHRISTMAS
which here lasts from December 25th to January 5th . In some parts of the world amongst the Orthodox Churches founded before the Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches were formed, Christmas Day is January 6th which is the Feast of Epiphany in the Church of England. Of course no one knows the exact date of the birth of Jesus as such events were not regarded as important to remember 2000 years ago, but traditions from then associate it with March 5BC so that 2000 years ago Jesus would have been approaching his 22nd birthday . 8 years before his public mission began. It is maybe about the time he may have visited Cornwall with his uncle Joseph a trader in tin, silver and gold , who cared for his body when he had been executed and put him in his own stone tomb. Or the visit to the “Outer Isles of the Sea” may have been during his teens and by 22 he may have taken over as village carpenter when his stepfather Joseph was too old or had died and until his brothers and sisters grew old enough to take charge of the family business. There are ancient traditions but the Bible is silent on his years between 12 and 30.
ENOCH DIMBA of CHRISIAN RESOURCE MINISTRIES IN MALAWI asked me to produce on a single side of A4 paper a Christmas message which was translated by Enock into the local language and read to the orphans at MAONI ORPHANAGE on Christmas Day and sent to the pastors to be read to congregations. What an honour, privilege and responsibility. What follows next is that message
CHRISTMAS IN ENGLISH is made up of two words CHRIST meaning King and MASS meaning CELEBRATION. We are reminded that the Magi who set out to follow a star did so to find a new born King
That worried Herod who was not the real king of the Jews. Mary was a direct descendent of King David, and her husband while not the father of Jesus, became his adoptive father and he too was descended from King David, who was descended from, Abraham, Noah, Adam and therefore from GOD. So JESUS was born of God and of the royal line originally chosen by God, and this person called God, was not some local or national deity or the founder of some man made religion, not an idol of wood or stone and not a human, but the highest authority of the Universe, of whom a thousand ages in His sight are as a passing evening, to whom every galaxy belongs, and all they contain. Who has no beginning and no end, who is eternal, the Supreme Intelligence of the Universe and yet he out of love for humans went out of his way to rescue and liberate us. This is the message of Christmas, so we mark this Celebration of the King.
JESUS CHRIST DECLARED “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other. " If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: `No servant is greater than his master.'If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.”
As recorded in the account by John one of the Apostles. Chapter 15 vv 12 – 21,
EVERYONE OF US IS CALLED, CHOSEN AND APPOINTED TO BE SOMEONE OR DO SOMETHING and expected to obey, it may be something large and important or it may take up a little space for a little time
William Carey is famous as a pioneer missionary to India but he was led to Jesus by a fellow apprentice, of whom we know no more.
Billy Graham a famous evangelist in America who reached over 750 million people with the message of Jesus came to Jesus because a hired farm labourer invited him to attend a Gospel meeting. We heard no more about that farm worker.
2 elderly ladies, one crippled, in the Hebrides of Scotland prayed together alone for months that God would send a revival and God answered and thousands worldwide have become Christians because of them.
An enthusiastic minister trying to recruit people to take the Gospel into the then dark continent of Africa visited a village church on a cold damp evening when few people had gathered and no one seemed interested. He went home depressed feeling he had failed. He did not know that behind the organ was a 10 yearold boy who lapped up every word caught his vision and went on to become a doctor and explorer of Central Africa established a hospital and a school - David Livingstone.
A young trainee Primitive Methodist preacher performing his trial sermon to be appointed a local preacher preached “ Come to me and be saved” to a small congregation on a snowy winters day when a teenager who felt miserable with no sense of purpose for life had dropped in to shelter from the wind. He understood and became a Christian. His name was Charles Spurgeon a great evangelist, who set up an orphanage, and a college. Trained many ministers and set up many new churches.
A poor young Welsh girl Mary Jones saved up her pennies for months to buy a Bible and then walked over 20 miles to buy one in her bare feet as she had no shoes and her determination inspired the formation of the Bible Society that has produced millions of copies of the Bible.
About 40 years ago a 15 yearold girl who knew nothing about Jesus realised she had failed all her exams and so could not face her parents so she decided to commit suicide. She was just preparing to do this when she heard a rustle and noticed someone had pushed a piece of paper under their front door. It was a Christian tract and it's message spoke to her need and stopped her and changed her direction. She obtained a Bible and a Bible study course, she was put in touch with a local group of Christians, she revised her subjects and resat her exams and passed them all. She trained and became a teacher, and became missionary of the European Christian Mission teaching children of missionaries in Austria, all because some unknown person put a tract under her door
THE LITTLE WE MAY DO MAY BE THE SPARK TO IGNITE SOMEONE ELSE TO DO SOMETHING MUCH BIGGER.
LOCALLY Ken and I have completed our 7 year project to deliver VIA magazine with localised labels with options for finding out more, to as many homes as possible in all the parishes of Uttlesford, plus Linton & and all the villages on the 2 main bus routes to Trumpington. We have since completed 3 new estates at Trumpington where we also promote the C3 Website, and an estate at Newnham and I am 1500 homes into doing Saffron Walden.. We have left across the district NKJV Gospels of John in bus shelters, wayside sales hatches, and phone kiosks in use or transformed into lending libraries. We distributed 50 2017 Gospel Gem Calenders, and Christmas Cards with a special message inset to specific contacts, about the King, kingdom & Salvation.
MALAWI The 3 friends who contributed sufficient money to pay for a new film projector for Pastor Enock Dimba after their older one was damaged beyond repair will be pleased how much it has been used and that many people have responded to the showing of the Jesus film since May. The team also have now been supplied a new vehicle. We have recently supplied 14 Bibles in the local language,.and we have supplied assistance towards rebuilding the Boys Dormitory which was destroyed on December 30th when a severe storm brought havoc to the region and sliced the roof off their building. Further money and practical assistance by way of volunteer builders and carpenters would be appreciated.
Other friends supplied us several years back copies of SU Daily Study Commentary booklets and OUR DAILY BREAD booklets from R.B.C.which we sent to Enock for local use and they have been much appreciated. Pray for the pastors discipling and training the new converts. The team by the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through them also ordained some new pastors, healed sick people and cast out demons. We were also able to send some large print hymnals donated to us. Enock was able to give them to one of the local choirs. They are very thankful and are enjoying the books and praising the Lord. He also asked for Bibles for students starting secondary school and we've been able to do that.
