LIGHTHOUSE PRAYER MINISTRY NEWS
WINTER 2005
Lighthouse Prayer Ministry was founded originally in 1954 as a Scripture Union Branch. It developed locally in Christian literature distribution. Poster displays, a bookstall, a lending library and a locally circulated magazine over it's first 4 years, In 1958 we started making Bible Placements and Gospel distribution and began sending magazines to missionaries, & made our first overseas contacts.
Then since 1958 through various pen pal agencies, using Christian literature, cassettes, etc we have reached out to people scattered over 192 countries.
We had a small grants fund from1963-2005 but that has now closed. We no longer send money overseas. Today we are a small group of intercessors with ongoing links in about 10 countries. However we praise the LORD for what He has enabled us to do and to Him be all the glory, credit and praise.
Our Annual Budget
oooooooooooooooo
allows us to continue to send “The WORD for TODAY” (TWFT) to 30 contacts in Estonia, Malawi, Ghana, Ukraine, and Zambia and “The WORD 4U 2DAY” to some people locally, and to distribute locally 100 copies of the New Life Newspaper monthly with a Churches Together Contacts flier in them.
Assisted by others we send various magazines to contacts in 4 countries.
During 2005 from additional funding we have been enabled to send Gospel Cassettes and Gospel Videos to a number of people, and a cassette player to Death Row Kabwe Prison in Zambia..
We have been enabled to send a number of Revised Standard Version Bibles, Good News Bibles, and Authorised Version, to individuals during the year and fund some Bibles to Christian prisoners in China.
We have also sent several parcels of commentaries, Christian books and tracts to people who can use them, but we can only do this as additional money comes in to assist us.

Thomas Tonti Ba’ah the eye specialist has phoned me two or three times and sent cards. He much appreciates TWFT that we send him. The Hospital he serves is Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma to which we were able to persuade Gideons International through Gideons Ghana to place Bibles to each bedside. Please uphold him as he does lots of cataract operations restoring sight. All the work of the Hospital has grown year on year for several years according to their annual published report. Tom sent us a generous gift this year.
Francis Gorman of Agona Swedru, a Junior School Headmaster, and preacher - evangelist who organised Bible Classes for teenagers, and took some with him in the school holidays evangelising villages is completing studies for the ordained ministry
Robert Amusu (Robbie to his friends), who was an assistant to our old friend Francis Gorman now sustains a number of village pioneer pastor- evangelists. Robbie has been ill in hospital a lot during 2005 but is now back in full time work. He reminds us of the 3 evangelistic groups with which he works based at Bawjiase, Winneba and the latest one at Mangoase resulting in a number of baptisms last Easter.
We were able to help buy land at Mangoase to build a wooden thatched meeting place which local people using local materials are doing. . Francis Mensah was moved there to take charge but had to return to Bawjiase as there was no fresh water there. The team needed to dig a bore hole for fresh water. We have been provided with some money to pay for that and that has now been sent. The team take regular Sunday services there and do house to house visiting on Saturdays. They are planning a Mission during the Christmas holiday period.
Bismark Oworae is the new Group leader at Winneba.. Robbie asked prayer for 17 yearold Alice Adams who has been cooking for the team at Charter House Bawjiase where she attends Grace Church whose pastor is Gordon Boateng. We were enabled to fund Alice to do a design and dress making course over the next 2 years,
Robbie can be reached c/o Mr Ibrahim Amissah. P O Box TT 295 New Town. Tema, Ghana but at present is working in Togo.
Anthony Aboagye has been enabled to rent accommodation for 2 years, a room, near to the school where he has started his teaching career in September 2004. His postal address remains c/o Mr Osei Yaw PO Box 8835 Accra North Ghana.
He serves as a staff member of Sunday School at Victory Baptist Church where he is an effective leader of the education committee and the Outreach programme, and writes gospel songs..
He feels God may want him to train for the ministry but no one has any idea how that would be paid for. We send him the Baptist Times regularly.
This year has been traumatic for him. his mother and siblings, back in the rural village he comes from think that working in the city he is rich and can meet all their needs. He can’t. Teachers at his level are poorly paid. His mother was ill this year and he has had to pay her medical bills and is now in serious debt himself. He would like to get to the UK or the USA to work but has no idea how to get a visa, and nor have I a clue how he can get one. Can anyone advise me.
Haruna Bawah We were able to him help in various ways since he first contacted us about 10 years ago when he was aged 15 at a Christian Boarding School, a recent convert from Islam, the son of a recently died Imam. Haruna was expelled from the Muslim family and then his Mum who had become a Christian after him died from cancer.
We last heard from him a year ago when we were able to help him for the last time and as far as we know he is still working for Scanbech Ghana Ltd Taifa Industrial area PO Box 12885 Accra North GHANA. We were also able to supply him a Bible for a factory work mate.

Elder Chanda Jackson thanks us for literature and cassettes sent. He says numerous people have been helped.
We were enabled to send him earlier in the year £250 to provide a bore hole for clean running water to an orphanage managed for some years by a Christian couple. The husband died earlier this year. .The sister in charge is in her 70’s Chanda uses The WORD for TODAY to teach the orphans, there and the 10 he is looking after.
Mid year he prayed for £300 a year to educate them, £10 a term, 3 terms a year for each child. Later in the year we were enabled to send a once off Grant of that amount, but advised him to consider how best to use it as we are unlikely to be able to repeat this gift and these children will need this sum several years running. It might be better for him to teach the children as a group at home and use the money to buy text books, reference books and writing materials if that arrangement is possible.
If anyone else can help him bank notes can be sent by International Signed For Airmail ( registered mail) with a single limit per envelope of £250 to Elder Chanda Jackson is PO Box 740009, Nchelenge, Luapula ZAMBIA.

Geoffrey Mayamba Kuletela completed the four diploma business courses we were able to help fund with the distant learning Cambridge College in Jersey and his health has improved but he has 3-4 years to go before his release in 2008. Sponsorship has been made available for him to do a Master of Arts in Business Administration 3 year course to be completed in Dec 2007.
Pray that the LORD with strengthen him, and his faith and use him through His grace to help other people know Him If he successfully completes 2 years exams he will be sponsored for the final year.
Protestant Prison Chaplain Moses Zulu. should this year complete his 2 year theological course at the Church of Uganda College at Kitwe.
Bunda Evans Mutimer’s The LORD is using him in the Maximum Security Prison as a preacher leading services for the Prison Fellowship. He also leads two groups in the education department, teaching one English Language and the other Science.. We supply him the weekly NEWS WEEK magazine from New York for him and other prisoners, some Christian magazines and The WORD For TODAY,
Pray for Bernard Bohan Catholic Prison Chaplain who is of great assistance to us passing on material to prisoners. He helps care for 1800 prusoners as well as the needs of his own Parish of Bachwa. He is a missionary from Ireland.
Bunda’s mother Mrs Mutimer asked for help for her youngest son Lazarus Mbola. He had done very well in his exams at Junior Secondary School and could go to the Senior Secondary School for 3 years to complete his school education and qualify for university.
But the family had no means of paying the school fees. £200 a term for 3 terms for 3 years. The school paid the first year, We were given 2 donations last Christmas that paid the second year. It is up to the state and school to pay next year.. There is also Jameson the middle son who needs a special diet for his health which is hard to find and fund.
Laskey Mwape Kankomba ENGA’s village c/o W Kapungwe P O Box 740034 Nchelenge Zambia is still caring for the children of his late brother Partson Kalumba who died last year in Kabwe Prison. They are Brenda (17).Chisala (19) and Laskey Mwape junior(15). He cannot afford to send them to school any more.
Timothy Newton Phiri (39) is on a life sentence and suffers from Diabetes.
His friend Teddy Simetowe (aged 41) has been moved to Milima State Prison P O Box 410010 Kasama. Zambia, in the north of the country where he feels all at sea like a fish out of water. We send them both TWFT. Teddy would appreciate Christian pen pal letters.
David Dimuna Shibauka who has been in prison 19 years now and has a wife with 2 grown up children but has not received a visitor from home in all those years.
Agrippa Phiri is 4 years into a 15 year sentence for robbery We send him TWFT. David and he asked for walk man machines so they could listen to Gospel tapes. We appealed but none were offered. A Cassette player and ear phones were offered and having received confirmation have been sent.
Agrippa has a wife Esther Phiri with two small sons with Samson & Agrippa. She can be contacted c/o Martin Phiri, TR=NTY (Z) Ltd, PO Box 39319, Lusaka, Zambia. Agrippa is also an artist and has produced a beautiful picture of Jonah and the Big Fish which I could send a post card size of for 50p plus second class mail , proceeds to him.
Joseph Mulyata is an elder of a Prison Fellowship Church at Kabwe, begun there 7 years ago to whom we sent a Study Bible which he uses for preaching in the prison.
This Church began with a handful of members and now has over 90. We have supplied tracts and Bible Study booklets and are trying to arrange other Bible Study material. There are dozens of prisoners now Christians who would appreciate such materials, and if we could just provide enough for Bible Study group leaders it would help, and for new converts.
He and others we send to in Zambia have a problem that packets sent in are taxed, and that in prison is difficult. A released prisoner and his family now supply Joseph with soap that he trades in the prison to raise funds to pay outgoing posts and the tax on incoming packets. The tax is reduced if the packets are sent in at Small Packet Rate marked GIFT and signed, at the International Signed For Service rate (registered post).
His address is
Joseph Mulyata, Maximum Security Prison Death Row ward , PO Box 80915, Kabwe, Zambia
Although on Death Row the death penalty has not been carried out some years as 3 Presidents in a row have refused to sign warrants, this led to prison overcrowding, but this year that has been reduced by an amnesty, by reducing sentences, and moving prisoners to better medium security prisons.
Joseph Mulyata asks could some Christians as potential pen friends write to Bosses Kalimbwe Musenge, Death Row Ward, P O Box 80915 Kabwe Zambia. He is a younger prisoner who is finding the going tough. Christmas cards to him might be a good idea especially if written in was a Christmas carol or scripture portion.
Harry Kamwendo-Mkandu of the same address as the last couple is 3 years into a long sentence and in April 2003 his wife died leaving his children penniless. They were even told their father was dead and he is as good as dead in prison unable to help them. He asks us to pray for his daughter Lavender and his son as to how they will fare. We have sent him Christian papers and Bible study booklets.
Chilekwa Obed Kapaso. was released earlier this year, he was stunned when he reached his parents home in Lusaka to discover they had both died of Aids, and the home had been sold to pay their debts. He was reduced to a homeless unemployed beggar. He did later get on a re-training course.

They have to keep moving to find food. Two years ago he told us if we did not send him £60 a month they would all die of starvation. After sending 3 grants we discovered the real price was much lower and either he was ripping us off or being ripped off. He has survived without our help for 2 years now.
