LIGHTHOUSE PRAYER MINISTRY NEWS
*****************************************************
LIGHTHOUSE MINISTRY (MCCPF) Founded 1954. SUMMER 2007 UPDATE
Administrator John E Maddams
REMINISCING.
############
Our work began in 1954. Over those years by a series of projects and with various teams and groups of people we have sent out the Gospel to thousands of people across 192 countries and planted 4635 trees across 14 countries.
53 YEARS ON as ever on a shoestring budget our work continues even though limited in scope to a few areas of the world. Only about 7 people contribute money now and maybe a dozen pray.
LAST YEAR PASTOR TRAINING INTERNATIONAL sent out mini-libraries to some 20 of our pastoral contacts. Gospel Literature Worldwide has from time to time undertaken to send out their Broad Sheets and Bible Study courses to our new overseas contacts and each month we get new requests for help.
During March we sent out packages of Tracts, Scriptures, Books, Booklets and Cassettes to Christian Resources Centres in Ghana, Malawi, and Zambia, and to certain pastors and evangelists.
Three of our supporters put up money last December to fund a Mission at a tiny Ghanaian hamlet of Mangoase as a result of which 33 newcomers have joined the small congregation of a church begun there last Easter.
BIBLE FAMINE.
############
We discovered in March to our dismay that a local Church that has consistently faithfully supported the Bible Society since 1812 has stopped since 2005 giving an annual donation. We will continue to encourage individual people to support this important ministry and ourselves make an annual donation. The need to provide subsidised and free Bibles around the world rises as the planets population rises.
Whole villages in war ravaged Congo share but 1 Bible and in many parts of the world there are no Bibles. For over a billion people a Bible is a luxury they cannot afford. 4500 languages still wait for even 1 book of the Bible. Someone goes blind every 5 seconds but the Bible in Braille exists only in 30 languages. International Evangelist Luis Palau has said “If you have to cut out every ministry and keep one, printing and distributing the Bible has to be number one”.
There are still places abroad where the Authorised Version of the Bible is a preferred choice, or Good News Bibles. Indeed homes exist for any English translation.
BOOK AID

will accept them. If you have a quantity, contact Mr & Mrs Barrett of Histon 01223 233063 Book Aid’s Regional Representative in East Anglia. They may be able to collect them or tell you where to deliver them to be picked up. Outside East Anglia contact 020 8857 7794 or office@book-aid.org. Lighthouse Ministry does not handle AV any more but if anyone wants one we can supply an address where they can be obtained..
Challenging Illiteracy, and Atheism, Over a billion people cannot read nor write and only 3% of the world’s languages have the Bible in audio but many of them have access to radio or to a communal cassette player. So that is the way to reach many of them with the Good News of Jesus Christ, so the ever extending ministry of FEBA’s Christian Radio programmes to Africa, and Asia is so important or the “JESUS” Film now dubbed into many languages and taken into remote areas or provided on video.
EUROVISION EVANGELISM
##################
The key to reaching millions of Russians and Ukrainians is through Christian programmes on TV through buying time on the state TV channels. Eurovision Evangelism is doing just that and with the offered service of a free telephone response line thousands of people are seeking help every day. Alas so many British churches are so inward looking they don’t share in funding such important ministries. We continue to help as best we may to fund or publicise such work. Revival is sweeping Russia, Kazakstan and Ukraine and touching Germany, Switzerland and Sweden
NEW LIFE NEWS PAPER
######################
Locally we continue distributing the NEW LIFE NEWS paper .
Once a quarter that goes to about 40 homes on my paper round where I know there are teenagers and two older people subscribe to receive it monthly. The rest, normally 96, on other months is being distributed as a once off outreach to all the homes in Walden, with a flier leaflet with the address of the Christian Enquiry Agency. Folk receiving the paper are invited to subscribe to the publishers to have it regularly. This outreach begun in 2003 and destined to end in 2010 is aimed to reach with the gospel every home in Walden at least once.
Potentially some 16,000 people and particularly the 13, 000 not reached by the normal activities of the 9 church congregations. We are currently completing distribution to the 2 main Southern estates. All the new houses have now been reached but we monitor new ones being built or others changing hands. Not everyone likes a tabloid newspaper but apparently those are the kind most people read. Some Christians object but offer nothing better.
We also put Christian message posts on several other web sites based in the south western USA linking to other Christian web sites. 3 of our articles on one site have been read by over 1000 people
We continue while extra funds allow to send out Bibles on request of individuals, and cassettes, books, magazines, and literature for distribution to various contacts in Estonia, Ghana, Malawi, & Zambia, As from April 1st 2007 there has been a large increase in all overseas mail rates.
We support locally Gideons School New Testaments distribution and the Annual Vacation Bible School which reaches some 600 children for a week in August and the work of Stort Valley Schools Trust who fund part-time women Christian support workers in our secondary schools and the use of Its “Your move booklets” in 6th year Primary schools.
We also continue a ministry of encouragement to individuals using Gospels, RBC Booklets, tracts, poems, cards, and emails.
We encourage the circulation of OUR DAILY BREAD Bible Reading devotional booklets.
We support the work of NEW FRONTIERS in the valley of the Amazon River where they, through Ray of Hope Ministry are establishing new village schools to combat the need of daily 3 hour canoe journeys to and then from school. Imagine getting up at 3am to go to school and getting home about 7pm six days a week We help provide for more children the book ”THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY EVER TOLD” in Brazilian Portuguese at £1 a copy.
WE CONTINUE TO PLANT TREES.
##############################
We have two fine woods of 250 trees each on the Congo/Ugandan border and an olive grove in Israel. Last year we funded 500 new coffee trees to South America. We have trees in the Sahel region of Africa helping fight soil erosion and the spread of the Sahara Desert. We have trees in the UK helping provide wild life habitat and around the world helping combat global warming. Trees absorb large amounts of Carbon dioxide. Peat bogs even more. If you really want to save the planet help plant millions more trees. Since 1991 we have funded over 5300 in 15 countries,
RIVERSIDE BARNS
#################
I recently visited Riverside Barns, Frogge Street Ickleton CB10 1TB a delightful pleasant place in Cambridgeshire with a pottery, a craft shop, book shop. Tyre shop, aquatic plants and fish shop, a small lake with ducks and swans alongside the river Cam, with plenty of seats and a small cafe selling jacket potatoes, cooked meals, tea coffee and cakes. Well worth a visit. I went with the Salvation Army Cameo Club and one of my friends had been an Akela years ago and discovered that the man who runs the place was one of her cub scouts many years ago at Walden Baptist Church.
The Bookshop is run by a woman Gaby Rudd a member of the local Church of England with her daughter a former Girl’s Brigade member and other helpers. They have general books but also a lot of Christian books, both new and second hand. They like to receive second hand Christian books in reasonable condition. I bought some books and a couple of Good News Bibles to send to Africa. One had been presented in 1987 to one of our Boys Brigade boys by his church Sunday School. The book shop is called The Dovecote. Their phone number is 01223 574308.
We have been asked to pray for the following people.

aged about 26 cares for a 17 yearold brother and 3 younger siblings aged 8-11 they have had no schooling for years and beg for food.
He has been training 2 years to become a teacher but needed money to pay his college fees and help the family group. We have managed to send what he needs by MoneyGram International this enabled him to pay off his college fees, his rent, food for a year, and some clothing.
He graduated in July. but because of a new government edict as he has been trained in a private college he cannot get a teaching job in the state sector unless he does a 4 year science degree in a state college.
This seems to be an insurmountable obstacle as he has no funds and we cannot help him. He should have enrolled on Oct 6th. 2007. Please pray for wisdom for him as to what to do.

ANTHONY ABOAGYE
==================
aged 32 has made an application to the Midwest Baptist Seminary at Kansas in the USA to train as a Baptist Minister with the support of the elders of his Church ( Victory Baptist Church Mallam- Accra) and his air fare provided for. He would have worked in the USA to support himself while relying on scholarship grants from charitable bodies to pay for his education. His church have pledged $3000 for 4 years
He still needed to be able to assure the US embassy that he will have an income of $10,500 a year for 4 years guaranteed to live on before the embassy will grant him a Visa. He would seek to get that and more from a teaching post.
We felt that he needed to get support of a Baptist Church in Kansas who would help him get a job near the university. We have encouraged his pastor to seek the help of the Baptist World Alliance through the Ghana Baptist Convention and they have now applied to the Convention for help,
He needed to get his Visa and get over there to start a four year course from August but he failed to get the Visa so he cannot go
His Church will not sponsor him to train in Ghana as there is no way he can find work to cover his funding needs.
Anthony has a lot of determination. We have been helping him for years, especially when his teacher training college got flooded years ago and we received a newspaper cutting of him just a head above water and he lost all his meagre belongings which we were enabled to replace. We continue to send him THE WORD FOR TODAY
FRANCIS GORMAN

has completed the first stage of his Ministerial training course. He has had a great struggle finding money for fees and board, relying on part time teaching and preaching fees. To help him with the second stage he would appreciate any of the following. Bible Commentary, Bible Atlas, Bible Dictionary. and books on theology and homiletics If anyone has one of these and is willing to send it, do so direct to him (NOT to me). Do so by Small Packet Rate surface (sea) rate maximum 2 kilo) with a signed customs sticker from the Post Office marked as a gift. His address is PO Box SW261 Agona Swedru C/R Ghana. has been working in Togo since 2005 The Church started at Mangoase continues. We helped pay for the land on which locals built a meeting place and to have a bore hole dug for fresh drinking water. The folk there are trying to establish a self supporting small holding run by Francis Mensah.
A NEW BROTHER FREDERIC ANIM,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
a freelance evangelist from Kumasi has joined the team there. Three of our folk paid £140 to fund another Mission by students from the colleges at Winneba there during December 2006. 33 new people were added to the congregation.
Since Christmas Robert has been to India to have urgent medical treatment on his eyes and can now see again OK but he has had to give up his stressful job in Togo and get another less suitable,
Frederic did not receive the help he was promised and caught malaria and incurred medical and food debts amounting to £160. This has been reduced by Robbie to £110 but he still needs to clear that.
Frederic is due to leave in December and Francis Mensah will take over as Pastor.
EBENEZER from Takoradi wrote to us to help him complete his school studies by getting him a wheel chair and special boots. We did that. Now he needs a sum as yet unknown to us to pay to train him as a cobbler and shoe maker.

report from Jinja that they now have a van for enabling them to extend their range of ministry in organising AIDS awareness courses, and providing help to AIDS sufferers and their children as they become orphans. They run ACCOD (NGO Registered No S5914/4656) which is short for Alpha Childcare and Community Development Organisation. They are now helping 800 children with educational support and medical care
The last grant we were able to send them provided clothing for 15 children. They have in their care 200 children who for lack of funds cannot go to school. £60 a year would pay for a child to go to school. An organisation in Holland is helping them financially for several years ahead and that will support 160 other children and 36 families. Richard and Sarah also have 3 children of their own. Matthew in his 8th year, Mark in his 5th and Martha in her third.

ELDER CHANDA JACKSON of PO Box 740009 Nchelenge Luapula ZAMBIA

has written to us again. He looks after 10 orphan children himself. He needs £300 to put them through school each year that is £10 a term for each of the 10 of 3 terms a year. Some money was sent in early 2006 by 2 of us but that only provided for some boys and Chanda feels he cannot choose which to send when all should go but he has also been asking from £25 each as well to fit them out with school uniforms. The Head Teacher is insisting that all children in the school must wear school Uniform. That is understandable but difficult for many parents and impossible for the orphans. The head said if they cannot come in uniform don’t send them.
We do not have the money to do this. In any case we can no longer send bank notes to these African countries. It should be OK to send crossed postal orders to Chanda but only if he has a bank account. It would be best to check with hi first. we cant send uncrossed postal orders or bank notes now. If anyone has a solution to this problem I’d like to know of it. The point is that growing boys will need new uniforms from time to time and he needs £300 a year maybe for the next 6 or 7 years.. He also requested a Study Bible which we have sent.
PICTURE POSTCARDS. Do you have any second hand postcards Mission Aviation Fellowship can sell them to raise funds. Send to Mrs Heather Yule 10 Calverden Road RAMSGATE Kent CT12 6JU
PASTORS TRAINING INTERNATIONAL have sent packs of books to a number of our Pastor contacts in Africa who have no books
Your prayers are appreciated for all, or any, of those requesting our help or anything stated that we support.
We commend for the encouragement of folk with computers www.lc-words.com to get a Bible scriptural e-mail

has been working in Togo since 2005 The Church started at Mangoase continues.

Curate of St Mary’s Saffron Walden was in Kenya serving as a teacher for the net 3 months. The church there in the South is thriving. The Cathedral in Nairobi has to have 13 services on a Sunday to accommodate all the congregation. The southern Dioceses of the Anglican church are growing and funding missions to the Moslem nomad tribes in the arid North.

RICHARD & SARAH LUBALE

report from Jinja that they now have a van for enabling them to extend their range of ministry in organising AIDS awareness courses, and providing help to AIDS sufferers and their children as they become orphans.
Matthew in his 8th year, Mark in his 5th and Martha in her third.

has written to us again.
