BUILDING THE CITY OF GOD
************************************
It is hard to build the City of God,
For the stone's are heavy to lift,
And many who start with a willing heart,
Find the work too rough, and drift.
They drift away to easier things
Than building God's city here.
Whilst others run at the sound of a gun,
And quit the work through fear.
While some there be, who disagree,
And argue the hours away.
But others toil on until daylight has gone,
And then rest at the end of the day.
There is work for old, there is work for young,
There is work for me and you:
Whether rugged or weak we've not far to seek,
To find what each of us ought to do
It is hard to build the City of God
In the heat, and the rain, and the frost;
And some that begin pack the work in
When they find what the building must cost.
But when life is hard and you weary of toil
If you pause for a moment in prayer.
You can make a new start as you lift up your heart,
For the Lord of the City is there.

## PROJECT 2013
///////////////////////////
Tools With A Mission have now sent the supplies this year on or about April 19th 10 months earlier than originally planned to the
Disabled People's Together We Survive Group at Nchelenge in Zambia, for a Group training scheme,
The delivery is to include 10 sewing machines, 2 bicycles,
5 computers, 3 printers, 2 wheel chairs, 4 typewriters,
45 training kits for 6 trades, and some gardening tools,.
Supply depended on us being able to pay the freight costs of £940 and haulage cost 750km from South to North Zambia of £380
Towards this we have received sufficient . TWAM plan 6 shipments to Zambia this year. Last year they sent to over 900 projects there.
NKUMBA DAVIES CHOLA is organising this in Nchelenge . He has been away receiving medical treatment and had to come back quick as his landlord was about to eject him from his hired room for non-payment of rent, with which he may need some help
We received news Aug 6th that at July 23rd the equipment had safely arrived at Nchelenge and was being sorted and delivered to various patient groups in the village centres where they live and put to good use. They are deeply grateful as nothing like this has ever happened in their life before. Praise the LORD.
## BIBLES TO NIGERIA.
//////////////////////////////////
During the passed 18 months we have been enabled to fund 1,800 Bibles in Nigeria mainly at £1 or £2 a copy in AV or NIV buying from local bookshops there.
We heard from Evangelist PAUL GODSEND in Ibadan having supplied him 280 copies asking for 350 more. This was for converts arising from tracting and open air ministry at 4 villages, 3 prisons, 2 markets and a new congregation begun this year in a neighbouring State. Through the generousity of several people this has now been accomplished this year.
We then in January received another request from 60 converts in a market in Ibadan from CELESTINE OSUOHA. He also needed Scripture Booklets and we have put him in touch with SGM in Kenya. We have sent this man 1 copy of the NIV Bible with notes donated to us by Eileen White that belonged to Dennis We have now been enabled to send the 60 Bibles. Praise the LORD, This is His doing through His people We also sent some commentary booklets and cassettes. A friend donated a Special Overview of the Bible Teaching Aid for Preachers used by her late father which we have sent to this pastor.
Pastor Sam Imade of Effurun Community Church, Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria wrote again of a mission held in March gaining 50 new converts and asked for Bibles for them His congregation has been meeting under a tree for over a year in all weather since Islamist rebels burnt down their Church building We have now helped fund them advanced rent on a hall for 2 years during which they will save up to renew the contract.
OTHER RECENT NEWS

## BRAZIL Charlotte Piek born and brought up in South Africa whose parents are members of Thaxted Baptist Church is with her husband a member of Bishop's Stortford Community Church and works at the Christian School at Takeley where she also runs a Youth Alpha Course. She is UK Co-ordinator of MENINADANCA [ UK Charity number 10956638 ] The Lord has laid upon her a passion to save vulnerable girls from Prostitution in the towns of Brazil along Highway BR 116.
She shared her passion at the North West Essex Baptist Church Cluster Service on June 23rd at Thaxted Baptist Church The name of this mission means Girl Dance and includes a Dancing Training Centre at a safe house called the Pink House established at one of the smaller towns between the great cities on this Highway where girls as young as 6 are bought or abducted by trafficker gangs and groomed and raped and prepared for a life of perverted sex, drug addiction, and sexually transmitted disease including AIDS,
She shared her shock of seeing men piling out of a Church service and picking up such vulnerable kids to go and have sex with them. Like many Christians in Britain at the height of the Afro-American slave trade who saw no wrong in selling and owning black savages unaware that they were fully human, people for whom Christ died so these men in Brazil have yet to be re-educated,
MENINADANCA seeks to give these girls a sense of their real value and change their lives for the better and bring salvation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is hard because some come from families of 4 or 5 generations of prostitution. To maintain the Pink House work needs £4000 a month, and they would like to establish similar safe houses in 2 more towns for which they will need to recruit new staff.
Their work will be highlighted on a Panorama programme and in a book coming out in the autumn HIGHWAY TO HELL They can accept Gift Aided donations, to MENINADANCA PO Box 11116 Stansted, CM24 8WL and supply a weekly email update for prayer supporters Website www.meninadanca.org Email charlotte.piek@menindanca.org Phone +44(0) 7738 234042.
## GHANA
/////////////
ROBERT AMUZU asks prayer for a young man of the Seventh Day Adventist Church named FRANCIS with whom he did some Bible Study at Tema who felt God may want him to become a pastor. Robert sought a Bible for him. Someone has provided a NIV Study Bible which has been airmailed to him. Most Christians including Robert and us do not consider Seventh Day Adventists as being part of the Christian Church and Francis from his letter appears to believe he is saved through being good, and not because of anything done for us by Jesus Christ. We have sent him some teaching material.
Robert is working until June at a town near the city of Kumasi. One of his brothers is training in the Ghana Navy at the port of Takarodi and the other one is doing National Service in a remote town in Northern Ghana. Their elderly mother lives at home at a village near Lake Volta and is in good health.
Please continue to pray for ANTHONY ABOAGYE whom I have known since his father died, when he was a teenager, from Accra where until recently he was a School Teacher, Lay Preacher and Church Secretary at Victory Baptist Church, is now studying for Master of Divinity in the American Baptist Seminary of West California at Berkley, with the idea of returning to Ghana as a Youth Pastor for the Ghana Baptist Convention. He lives in college but he needs to find a part-time teaching job.

## MOZAMBIQUE

## NORTHERN ZAMBIA
///////////////////////////////////
Ten years ago we received a request from a young evangelist JACKSON CHANDA for Bibles, Bible study material, second hand Bible Study notes, 0ur The Voice Tracts, and card tracts, cassettes and videos for new evangelism, and church planting in the Nchelenge district on the coast facing Lake Mweru on the Zambian/Congo Border.
7 years ago he and his wife CHRISTINE established a congregation which has now grown to 60 and he is Elder in Charge with 4 elders to help him, We were asked to supply Good News Bibles and friends at Walden, Ramsgate, Bishop's Stortford and Newport provided 42.
3 years ago his church began evangelism on the Lake in the swamplands from which a river flows as a tributary of Congo River. There are now 3 congregations on these islands in all about 300 people for whom we were invited to supply Bibles as they are all too poor to buy them. We supplied 58 Large Print at £11 a copy in the Bemba language and 72 large print at £5 a copy in English [ In UK this edition sells at £25 ] These are being used in the 3 churches by dividing the congregations into small groups to share them.
We have supplied Study Bibles to the 3 Pastors of the island congregations on Lake Mweru.
DONALD KAPASA, WEBBY MUSONDA ,FRED BANGWE and They are assisted by 8 lay preachers
Jackson and his wife Christine have been looking after 10 AIDS orphans and we have been sharing the cost of educating them The cost of educating 10 has been £250 per term 3 times a year. From January 2014 that will be reduced to £150 a term for 6 as the 4 eldest have left school and are being trained in the vocational Training Scheme.
The names of the 10 are :-
The BOYS. Justin, John, Jon, James and Gift.
The GIRLS Monica, Layebbe, Rabbeca, Esther and Joyce.
Their School headmaster is Giberi Chishimba, Head of Kalweo Primary School
Jackson and Christine's own children are Chalwe born in 1999, Jackson junior[ 2004 ], Hilda [ 2008]. and baby Hazel born in 2012
This year however due to the bad harvest there the price of food has rocketed and we have sent £250 to pay for their food from May – December this year and we will pay the last term of this year for their education.
After that we have no money left for Nchelenge. The first part will be needed in late March .
They also need more money for food but we have no money left for Nchelenge.
So who is God asking to help?
While Jackson was away earlier this year having medical treatment for his feet the elders organised a new Mission week, and there were over 100 more converts including 50 Jehovah's Witnesses. For them hymnals were needed, and we have been able to supply that need.

is 44 year old Christian, and has a wife and 3 children are now impoverished and begging for bread.
He was involved in a road "accident" the details of which he has not shared but someone got killed as a result and he was found guilty of murder and is on a 20 year sentence with hard labour. He is lonely, faced with many temptations, scared, Hi s wife and children are unlikely to be able to visit him due to distance and cost He would appreciate Christian literature - papers, magazines, Bible Reading notes, books He would like people he could write to who would reply and keep corresponding. He is a trained teacher so eventually may get such a post in the prison teaching other prisoners. He is also an artist.
We have sent him 12 moths supply, 4 booklets, of ENCOUNTER WITH GOD Scripture Union notes to help him with his Bible Study.
## SOMALIA
////////////////
We ask prayer for the Hiran Community Education Project c/o Margaret Ali, 68 The Hurst, B13 ODD [ 0121 604 6174 ]. They have been funding some students through University to work as teachers in a Christian School / Library in the South of the country but their premises were destroyed by Islamists .They have resettled to a safer location where they have opened a Library & Reading Room being visited by 300 people per week, and the have this month opened a new school with 20 students and would like another room for 30 more. Permission to do so, and a trained Head teacher, and premises, and books have recently arrived, all in answer to prayer. They have since rearranged the room to include all the children on the waiting list but now seek a Teaching assistant and another or larger room. In July a crisis arose in that the landlord wanted to take back 2 rooms for his own use which threateded the future of the whole project.
Pray also for Y from Somalia who has come to Christ in another country of refuge to whom his aunt has sent Gospel cassettes and booklet in his native language that Y may be established in the faith, confident in knowing and trusting the Lord Jesus and encouraged.
## SUDAN
/////////////////
Baroness Cox reporting recently on the SUNDAY programme urges Christians in Britain to make a noise to Government and in the Churches concerning our fellow Christians in the Nuba Mountains and the region of the Blue Nile
The Sudan government is guilty of genocide towards it's citizens in that area who are mainly Christians. Because of that they are treating them much as Hitler treated the Jews. Whole communities have been bombed out of existence and forced to flee into the mountains to hide They are prevented from harvesting their fields or caring for their flocks. Many are starving to death in misery. Many are injured and there is a serious lack of medical supplies and clean water. Since Christian South Sudan seceded as a separate country the Sudanese government has persecuted the remaining Christians within the country. This appears to be largely ignored in the West. Please pray about this. Further information is available on www.persecution.org of the organisation Persecution - International Christian Concern, called Your Bridge to the Persecuted Church.
## UGANDA
///////////////
MWENYA UGANDA meaning Smile Uganda, provides a mobile dental and medical dispensary in Uganda Any sum would be appreciated £2 would provide a mosquito net. In the UK contact www.mwenya-uganda.org
We recently supplied a grant to AFRINSPIRE to provide some more trees to be planted in Uganda.
They are going to be planted at the Kiryandongo Refugee Centre whose people are learning how to farm on unfamiliar soil and their leaders are setting up demonstration plots. The camp is quite barren at the moment and needs tree to help provide for protection against soil erosion and fruit trees can be planted. This population will live there forever now as their former land was destroyed by landslides. You can learn more about AFRINSPIRE on www.afrinspire.org.uk
Continue to pray for Richard and Sarah Lubale who manage an organisation that cares for victims and sufferers of AID, hostels and educates a lot of Orphans of AIDS, and runs courses educating as to the prevention of AIDS. Also pray for their children Matthew [ born in 1999 ], Mark [ 2002], Martha [ 2004]

is 42 years of age, has a wife and 4 children and is in for a long stretch, He is lonely. He needs encouragement and someone to write to him regularly. I expect he would appreciate Christian literature, and maybe practical help, That is entirely up to anyone who writes to him. Exercise caution. But if you feel led to take him on as a pen friend please do so,
Joseph Sambwe Musonda sent some beautiful coloured pictures of flowers that he has hand coloured and could be used for greeting cards. We cannot afford to print and sell them but if anyone would be interested in having the 4 images, sent by email provided you provide a donation that could be done. ## OUR WEB BOARD SITE
////////////////////////////////////////
We have placed on our web board site www.lhpm.proboards.com an article “SPIRITISM - A TIMELY WARNING FROM THE RECENT PAST” which instructs us on the wide insidious effects of this cult in present day society.
In the OTHER RELIGIONS section we have added an article FIVE QUESTIONS TO ASK A MUSLIM which all Christians would find useful to understanding why Islam is what it is and why while proclaiming their unity the different Islamic sects are continually fighting each other and the rest of the world.
We are preparing another DIVERSITY IN UNITY about how the various denominations came to be formed.
We have placed there words of the songs, the readings, prayers and talks material of a service for Mothering Sunday. We have also added an article about RESURRECTION
We have added UNITED KINGDOM FOR CHRIST which is a link to the revival meetings of Victory Church in Wales and we have added a Link for Turkish speakers and for Christians to introduce their Turkish friends to:- www.Allahitanimak.jesus.net Please have a look at these and encourage Turkish people to access that site.
We have updated the Pen Pal thread

## PRIOR'S GREEN
////////////////////////////
the new large housing estate at TAKELEY where we delivered VIA in 2010 and where Thaxted Baptist Church began a monthly Prayer Meeting that year, now since July 2012 has the REV KIM LEPSLEY living there, who is Curate of Takeley Parish Church. Prior's Green Mission now operates at the new Primary School Hall there, with a Prayer Meeting on the 3rd Thursday evening in the Month at 8pm, and an informal two hour service session on the 3rd Sunday each month from 4pm. Monthly on the 2nd Tuesday a Men's Group is meeting at a home on the estate. GRAPEVINE the Church's magazine, is being delivered to all the homes 10 times a year. From this school recently 25 shoe boxes were sent through the Christmas Child project to Eastern Europe. The Vicar of Takeley and Little Canfield is the REV ROBERT BURLES, and in the 18 months he has been there several couples from the estate have brought their babies for baptism,
Please pray for this new development. A similar one exists at Flitch Green on the Dunmow / Felsted border, and another at Stansted, the Forest Hall Estate, where we have taken VIA. Soon we may have our own one East of Shire Hill. All great opportunities for pioneer mission.
PRAY ON. There is a need around us for the Word of God.
## UTTLESFORD OUTREACH.
//////////////////////////////////////////////
Last year Ken Bedward and I delivered house to house the Gospel Magazine VIA published by a Brethren Church in Canada, to over 3,400 homes in Uttlesford. Beginning in dry March in Clavering and going on to wet and windy November in Farnham, Lindsell, Little Bardfield, and finally to 119 homes at Bran End, Stebbing on a frosty December day.
The aim remains to reach seekers, and people who never attend a Church providing them addresses, phone numbers and websites from which they can get help, Hits to our web sites prove there is a response. We deliver relying on the Holy Spirit to minister to those people
We visited a café in a remote location and we were the only 2 customers and we got talking with the manager about delivering VIA, and he said leave a pile by the door so people can pick them up.
I resumed delivery of VIA Gospel literature in Dunmow during APRIL and have reached over 1,500 homes and the two of us from mid-May have delivered to all the rest of Stebbing and at 280 homes at Barnston where 110 years ago a tent mission created a Mission Church which continues today next to the Village Hall where the Church of England hold some services, as their building is about a mile out of the village centre. Our next target area is Flitch Green, about 900 homes we are led to believe on the old BSC Sugar Beet Factory site near Felsted which I visited about the age of 14 as a member of a school Young Farmer's Club. We also have new homes at Stansted and Saffron Walden to reach, and many more in those 2 towns are planned along with a huge new town estate just north of Dunmow. In some areas the churches are very active at outreach with Church magazines, and some with offers of prayer support or of Bibles. but much more needs to be done in towns and villagers on a regular basis to reach the homes of those whom do not attend churches. One way of drawing people in may be using a village hall or community hall or even a pubs at least for special holiday season services One village with a congregation of 30 or week did that at Christmas and 130 villagers attended.
We on the labels includeng the website of DUNMOW BAPTIST CHURCH which we commend - www.dunmowbaptist.org Items on that site can be changed into a wide range of languages and there is a lot of good Bible teaching, that can be accessed there.
## Here is news from Rev WAYNE FIELD
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
newly come from Australia to CUMBRIA to serve from OPERATION MOBILISATION UK HQ as their International Training Officer for at least the next 3 years
Organising pastor training courses over many countries Wayne is the grandson of a former Deacon of Saffron Walden Baptist Church . He is here with his wife, Jodie, and his daughters , Sarah, Caitlyn & Jessica
“Toto, we’re not in Kansas any more.” Judy Garland’s famous line from the Wizard of Oz describes well the reality that everything has changed (I think the girls’ expression in the pic above says it all). No matter how well you prepare for that change it is still a challenge. The process of change for the Fields began about 2 years ago and came to a significant high point these past few weeks as we moved across the world.
I began writing this letter high above the snow covered mountains as we flew over Kazakhstan en-route to the UK. Here I am a two weeks later just getting back to it!
January and the first half of February 2013 would have to go down as one of the busiest periods we’ve ever had as a family; finalising our support, packing up our house (I seriously underestimated how long that would take!), selling off items, negotiating with estate agents here and in the UK, and most importantly catching up with family and friends to say “goodbye.”
Then landing in the UK and undertaking the whole process again, but this time in reverse! … meeting new friends and colleagues, unpacking and setting up a new home, opening accounts, connecting power, finding a new church, etc, etc. We have so many people to thank, on both sides of the globe, for helping us through this process. THANK YOU ALL.
The family have weathered the transition well although yesterday some of us were a bit down as it was our dog’s fifth birthday and we miss her a lot. We had to leave Montana in Australia, and that was a hard decision to make. Yesterday our neighbour and fellow OMer, Torleif, stopped by with his dog Noomsa. So we had a top-up of canine cuteness. The Lord must have known.
Over the next few days I have several meetings with the OM International Human Resources team and I will make a proper start into my role next week. As we read through the New Testament we see that Paul’s missionary strategy included planting churches and insisting that these churches have strong, well trained and spiritually mature leadership. I am very keen to take up the work of training leaders and to continue in this tradition.
For prayer
We thank the Lord that Sarah and Caitlyn have been accepted into an excellent school. Please pray that we might find just the right school for Jessica too.
Please pray that new friendships will form well for each member of the family.
They have latterly been learning a new language Cumbrian which is quite unlike English He has visited a city which is a centre of Islam in the Dark Continent in a country where Moslems have increased by over 71% in 11 years to over 2 million. That Dark Continent is Europe, that Country is the UK and that city is Manchester. There he participated in a course over several weeks learning how to tell stories, and put the Gospel into stories so as to engage in conversation with Moslems on the buses who represent a great mission field open to us in a land where it is largely safe for them to become believers, who in the traditional Moslem world could face death simply for believing in Jesus Christ.
{ Ken and I have delivered VIA to several Moslem homes in the past year]
Thank you all for your support.
Grace and peace to you,
## NEWS FROM CAMBODIA
////////////////////////////////////////////
from Amanda Pearson working from Interserve with the Daughters of Cambodia. A mission set up by a Mrs Ruth Elliot who used to live at Saffron Walden and came to the Baptist Church, whose work the Missionary Prayer Meeting has supported for several years.This Mission charity now provides 2 cafes, a shop and a guest house to provide those rescued from prostitution with employment. Please prater to the children of Ruth's family, Natasha, 20, and Jessie 19 who is studying intermediate technology at University, and Emma, and Toby who is 5.
Good News! Church leaders in Cambodia have a shared vision and passion: To see a group of Jesus’ disciples in every village throughout Cambodia by the year 2021, whose changed lives make their communities a better place for all to live. This is Mission Kampuchea 2021 (MK 2021) and means reaching 15,000 villages in Cambodia over the next 7 years.
Leaders of MK 2021 recently invited Dr Loren Cunningham to Cambodia. Loren is co-founder of YWAM & one of the most influential leaders in world mission over the last 50 years. He leads a mission of over 20,000 volunteers in nearly 200 countries and himself has ministered in every country in the world. Mum (who was visiting me) & I were blessed to hear him speak. He re-minded us of the importance of unity and pointed to the amazing times in which we live where we see the growth of movements in evangelism, prayer, worship, church planting & mercy minis-tries. However, the distribution of the word of God has been the slowest growing area. Leaders have been praying as the word of God is strategic and transforms nations. (Look at revivals in Norway where 25% of population read the bible and in South Korea where, in 25 years, the country went from poverty to wealth — they prayed and had the word of God). Bible poverty is the creator of all poverty; our nations will be transformed to the degree we follow Jesus. Now the leader of Wycliffe believes it will be possible to translate all the remaining languages by 2020. Loren believes that in the next 7 years we will see great moves of God. Amen!
Pray for Mission Kampuchea 2021, bible literacy & that Cambodia will be soaked in the Word of God.
Praise God!
Logos Hope, the OM ship, is coming to Sihanoukville (the place featured in my December newsletter) this month. Please con-tinue to pray the tide will turn in Sihanoukville, that a light will shine in the darkness and that there will be a shift in power so that more NGOs can operate there.

## SAFFRON WALDEN STREET PASTORS The Street Pastors movement began in the West Indies and has spread to several countries and in the UK there are about 10,000 all trained volunteers. They patrol the streets 4 at a time, a pair on each side looking for people with problems, lonely people, people worse for wear from drinks, disorientated people, groups of teenagers, people sleeping rough ,loiterers with intent,etc. They befriend, engage in conversation and try to help. They are being launched in Saffron Walden on September 13th 2013 for which the volunteers commenced their 50 hours of training on April 27th. We need to recruit 16-20 to launch so each group do 1 night a month and in terms of training and uniform it costs about £300 each, £6000 to launch.
In the heat, and the rain, and the frost;
And some that begin pack the work in
When they find what the building must cost.
But when life is hard and you weary of toil
If you pause for a moment in prayer.
You can make a new start as you lift up your heart,
For the Lord of the City is there.

## PROJECT 2013
///////////////////////////
//////////////////////////////////

## GHANA

## NORTHERN ZAMBIA
///////////////////////////////////

He is lonely, faced with many temptations, scared, Hi s wife and children are unlikely to be able to visit him due to distance and cost He would appreciate Christian literature - papers, magazines, Bible Reading notes, books He would like people he could write to who would reply and keep corresponding. ## SOMALIA

## SUDAN
/////////////////

The camp is quite barren at the moment and needs tree to help provide for protection against soil erosion and fruit trees can be planted. This population will live there forever now as their former land was destroyed by landslides. You can learn more about AFRINSPIRE on www.afrinspire.org.uk

## OUR WEB BOARD SITE
////////////////////////////////////////

////////////////////////////
the new large housing estate at TAKELEY where we delivered VIA in 2010 and where Thaxted Baptist Church began a monthly Prayer Meeting that year, now since July 2012 has the REV KIM LEPSLEY living there, who is Curate of Takeley Parish Church.
//////////////////////////////////////////////
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
newly come from Australia to CUMBRIA to serve from OPERATION MOBILISATION UK HQ as their International Training Officer for at least the next 3 years
Organising pastor training courses over many countries Wayne is the grandson of a former Deacon of Saffron Walden Baptist Church .
////////////////////////////////////////////
from Amanda Pearson working from Interserve with the Daughters of Cambodia.

We need more Prayer pastors for this to man a prayer post from 8pm - 1am. and also more people in their homes praying during that period.
Friday nights are when most things happen locally. Where ever this has been set up crime is reduced. 4 local churches are backing this. Anyone willing to help financially may make cheques payable to
SAFFRON WALDEN STREET PASTORS and send it to the Treasurer, TRACY TODMAN, 14 Audley Road SAFFRON WALDEN, Essex CB11 3HD and Gift Aid it if you can if you pay income Tax, that adds 25p in the £1. Prayer support is needed especially Friday Nights into the early hours when they are on duty,
For details about prayer support contact KATHRYN WINFIELD, 5 London Road SAFFRON WALDEN Essex CB11 4ED. I John expect to be helping in the prayer support and we have arranged a grant towards uniforms. As at March 14. 19 people have volunteered to be Street Pastors, from 5 churches, and 16 had been the target. These were being interviewed in March and training begins in April and the aim is to launch in September.
