This was the Message given to every person visiting COMMON GROUND OUTREACH when it operated years ago on Saffron Walden Common and later in the Market Place first in the Travelling Bus and then later the Gazebo. all that generation has grown up and the outreach mission on Friday evenings ceased to operate and most of the people involved have moved on except Tony Attwood who operates now on Fridays as a Street Pastor and they go out as a different team of 4, each Friday and through the year the tdo engage with groups of young people on the Common, at the Skate Park, or in Bridge End Gardens, or outside the pubs and restaurants.
THIS THEN WAS THE MESSAGE which is as relevant today as ever
We are here because we love you and care about you. We would like to get to know you, help you and encourage you in any way we can. We are from Churches in Saffron Walden and are here to serve you.
Most importantly we want you to meet with the living God.
You see you are a very special person and God loves you and He wants you to know Him.
However, all the bad and wrong things you have said and done, ignoring God and going your own way separate you from Him. These things are called sin.
God does not want this to go on for one moment longer. He has made a way to forgive you for everything that you have ever said or done wrong. He has made it possible for you to have a brand new start with a brand new life filled with love, joy and peace with Him.
You see, God loves you so much that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ. He lived on earth and showed the world the love of God and His Way of living but He was betrayed and sentenced to death on a cross. He suffered and died an agonising death on the cross to take the punishment and blame that you deserve. Because God is a Holy and Just God, sin has to be judged and God say’s in His Word, the Bible, that the wages of sin is death. So Jesus died in your place and went to Hell so that you don’t have to.
But after three days God raised Jesus from the dead and now He is sitting at the right hand of God the Father waiting for you to meet Him.
God did all this so that you can be set free from sin, sickness, fear and have a brand new life full of love, joy and peace. But it is your choice. Your body is alive on planet earth but one day it will die and your spirit will live on and will go to one of two addresses, Heaven or Hell. It all depends on your choice, on how you respond to Jesus while you are alive on earth. God wants you to have eternal life with Him in Heaven, it is a free gift which Jesus paid for with His life.
God knows all about you, He knew you before you were born, He knew you would be reading this and He is speaking to you through these words.
What you have to do to receive the gift of eternal life with God is to turn away from the things
that are wrong in your life, your sins and turn to God and His way of doing things. (This is called repentance).
Believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and thank Him for it. Ask God to forgive you for all
of your sins and accept and ask Jesus into your heart to be Lord of your life. Then ask God to fill
you with the Holy Spirit. This is the power that will help you to live a new life.
Pray the prayer below -
Then you will begin a wonderful new life. You will be born again into
a new family. God will be your Father, Jesus will be your Brother and we will be your brothers
and sisters. You will be part of the Family of God, the Church.
Lord God,
I believe that You died in my place so that I can
be forgiven of my sins and I thank You for it.
I now turn from all that I know is wrong and turn
to You.
Please forgive me for all the things that I have
said and done that were wrong and for going
my own way.
I receive Your forgiveness now.
Jesus, I now make You my lord and saviour,
come into my heart now and fill me with the
Holy Spirit.
From this moment on I want to follow You
Jesus and Your Way of doing things.
Thank You Lord. Amen
