Theme STREAMS OF LIVING WATER
Hymns and Readings, led by Susan and Graham Jellis with projected pictures of scenes of the River Jordan taken from the Jordan side of the river looking towards the West Bank which should be Palestine but was seized by the State of Israel in the 1967 war and occupied by them ever since
BPW 480 GLORIOUS THINGS OF YOU ARE SPOKEN
Words By: John Newton
Glorious things of you are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
He whose word cannot be broken
Formed you for his own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake your sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
You may smile at all your foes.
See, the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Well supply your sons and daughters
And all fear of want remove.
Who can faint while such a river
Ever will their thirst assuage
Grace which, like the Lord, the giver,
Never fails from age to age?
Round each habitation hovering,
See the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a covering,
Showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner
Light by night and shade by day,
Safe they feed upon the manna
Which God gives them on their way.
Saviour, since of Zion’s city
I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in your name.
Fading are the worldlings’ pleasures,
All their boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasures
None but Zion’s children know.

ISAIAH 35
1 THE DESERT AND THE PARCHED LAND WILL BE GLAD;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, 2it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the LORD,
the splendor of our God.
3Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
4say to those with fearful hearts,
"Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you."
5Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
WATER WILL GUSH FORTH IN THE WILDERNESS
AND STREAMS IN THE DESERT.
7The burning sand will become a pool,
the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
In the haunts where jackals once lay,
grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.
8And a highway will be there;
it will be called the WAY OF HOLINESS.
The unclean will not journey on it;
it will be for those who walk in that WAY;
BPW 394 THE KING OF LOVE MY SHEPHERD IS
The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine for ever.
Where streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth,
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
but yet in love He sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.
In death's dark vale I fear no ill
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spread'st a table in my sight;
thy unction grace bestoweth;
and O what transport of delight
from thy pure chalice floweth!
And so through all the length of days
thy goodness faileth never:
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house for ever.
BPW 523 FATHER, HEAR THE PRAYER WE OFFER
Father, hear the prayer we offer:
Nor for ease that prayer shall be,
But for strength, that we may ever
Live our lives courageously.
Not forever in green pastures
Do we ask our way to be,
But the steep and rugged pathway
May we tread rejoicingly.
Not forever by still waters
Would we idly, quiet stay;
But would smite the living fountains
From the rocks along our way.
Be our strength in hours of weakness,
In our wanderings be our Guide;
Through endeavour, failure, danger,
Father, be Thou at our side.
Let our path be bright or dreary,
Storm or sunshine be our share;
May our souls in hope unweary
Make Thy work our ceaseless prayer.
We were reminded of the Land Promised to Abraham, that Moses was allowed to see from Mount Nebo near to Mount Pisgah but was not allowed to enter
We were shown part of a mosaic floor discovered in a house in Jordan from ancient times with a richly fruiting tree and deer. A portion of the much larger floor but indicative of the land “flowing with milk and honey” promised to the released Hebrew slaves rescued from Egypt, led by Moses who was led by God.
BPW 593 GUIDE ME O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.

ISAIAH 40 from verse 3:-
///////////////////////////////////////
A voice of one calling:
"IN THE DESERT PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE LORD
MAKE STRAIGHT IN THE WILDERNESS
A HIGHWAY FOR OUR GOD.
4Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
5And the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
and all mankind together will see it.
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
We saw a map of the Jordan, how it laces through Israel from Galilee to the Dead Sea
We saw a very old map showing it when it was a much larger river with a rushing current
[ Nowadays much water is taken from the river as it pass through Israel ] The map showed a quieter tributary to the main river where it is believed locally the John the Baptist baptized people. We also saw a Baptismal Party about to baptize someone in the river, and a photo of today the place where it is believed John baptized where excavations have discovered the spot and the foundations of 2 churches, with another still in use behind them..
BPW 147 ON JORDAN'S BANK THE BAPTIST'S CRY
1. On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
Announces that the Lord is nigh;
Come, then, and hearken, for he brings
Glad tidings from the King of kings.
2. Then cleansed by every Christian breast
And furnished for so great a Guest.
Yea, let us each our hearts prepare
For Christ to come and enter there.
3. For Thou art our Salvation, Lord,
Our Refuge, and our great Reward.
Without Thy grace our souls must fade
And wither like a flower decayed.
4. Lay on the sick Thy healing hand
And make the fallen strong to stand;
Show us the glory of Thy face
Till beauty springs in every place.
5.All praise, eternal Son, to Thee
Who advent sets Thy people free,
Whom, with the Father, we adore
And Holy Ghost forevermore.
"On Jordan's Bank the Baptist's Cry" written by Charles Coffin, 1676-1749

MARK Chapter 1 from verse
1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2It is written in Isaiah the prophet:
"I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way"--
3"a voice of one calling in the desert,
`Prepare THE WAY for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.' "
4 AND SO JOHN CAME, BAPTIZING IN THE DESERT REGION AND PREACHING A BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. 5The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him.
Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7And this was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
9AT THAT TIME JESUS CAME FROM NAZARETH in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."
SOURCE 441 RIVER WASH OVER ME
River, wash over me,
cleanse me and make me new;
bathe me, refresh me and fill me anew-
river, wash over me.
Spirit, watch over me
lead me to Jesus’ feet;
cause me to worship and fill me anew –
Spirit, watch over me.
River, wash over me,
cleanse me and make me new;
bathe me, refresh me and fill me anew-
river, wash over me.
Jesus, rule over me,
reign over all my heart;
teach me to praise You and fill me anew –
Jesus, rule over me.
River, wash over me,
cleanse me and make me new;
bathe me, refresh me and fill me anew-
river, wash over me.

BPW 352 O JESUS I HAVE PROMISED
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle if Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my Guide.
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,
I dare not trust my judgement: Thy way shall be my will;
Oh, speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
Oh, speak, and help me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.
O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory there shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end—
Oh, give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.
Oh, let me see Thy footprints, and in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly is in Thy strength alone;
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;
And then in Heaven receive me, my Saviour and my Friend.

SOURCE 83 DOWN THE MOUNTAIN THE RIVER FLOWS
Down the mountain the river flows
And it brings refreshing wherever it goes
Through the valleys and over the fields
The river is rushing and the river is here
The river of God sets our feet a-dancing
The river of God fills our hearts with cheer
The river of God fills our mouths with laughter
And we rejoice, for the river is here
The river of God is teeming with life
And all who touch it can be revived
And those who linger on this river's shore
Will come back thirsting for more of the Lord
Up to the mountain, we love to go
To find the presence of the Lord
Along the banks of the river we run
We dance with laughter, giving praise to the Son
We closed with the GRACE
THE GRACE, OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST,
THE LOVE OF GOD,
AND THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
BE WITH US ALL
AMEN
